eBay Bundle Discounts: Set Up Tiers Without Losing Sight of Margin

Set up eBay bundle discounts, review listing exclusions and promotion interactions, and understand shipping, the $100 cap, and partial returns.

Choose the right multi-item discount

eBay bundle discounts let you build a standing multi-item offer, but the percentage is only one decision. Before enabling it, decide which products can absorb a reduction, what contribution you need from an order, and who will maintain the included listings. A discount that is easy to activate still needs an operating plan.

eBay’s Seller Center distinguishes bundle discounts across different eligible inventory items from volume pricing for multiple quantities of one listing. Its seller help also allows bundles containing the same item. Match the tool to the buying pattern you want to support rather than treating the two features as interchangeable.

eBay included bundle discounts in its September 2026 Seller News. That announcement supplies context, not evidence that a particular seller will earn more. For your own decision, identify products buyers could reasonably purchase together and evaluate the order economics before choosing a tier.

Calculate your room for a discount first

Build a simple order worksheet using your item costs, expected marketplace and advertising charges, packaging, fulfillment, shipping expense, and a contribution floor. Use your actual fee treatment and shipping revenue where relevant. Evaluate plausible combinations, including an order made entirely from the weakest-margin eligible products. A healthy inventory average can conceal an unattractive basket.

Here is a hypothetical planning example, not an eBay fee calculation or recommended offer. Two different products have a combined listed price of $80. Assume total costs of $52 for this scenario, including every order cost you intend to cover, and a required contribution of $20. That leaves $8 for a discount: $80 minus $52 minus $20. An illustrative 8% discount would cost $6.40, leaving $21.60 contribution under those fixed assumptions.

The example holds costs fixed so the arithmetic is visible. Real fees or fulfillment costs may change with the order, and returns can change the result again. Recalculate with your own inputs rather than importing the example’s rate. Run the worksheet separately for two-item, three-item, and larger baskets; more units do not automatically create more discount capacity.

Keep the assumption sheet beside the promotion record. If product cost, shipping expense, or an advertised price changes, the person making that change should know whether a tier needs another review. This turns margin protection into a repeatable task instead of a one-time calculation.

Set up the tiers in Seller Hub

Bundle discounts require opt-in. eBay’s help gives this Seller Hub path: Active listings → Actions → Add or Review Discounts. Choose percentages for 2, 3, and 4+ items, then review the included listings. Confirm the current controls in your account before saving.

Use the rates your worksheet supports. Write down the selected tiers, the date, the owner, and the reason for each setting. Check every quantity band rather than assuming the largest basket deserves the deepest reduction. Have the person responsible for pricing review the proposed offer against the current item prices.

If the controls are absent or the eligible inventory differs from your plan, check the current account guidance before proceeding. Public instructions do not establish access for every account or a complete category eligibility matrix. Resolve eligibility before announcing an offer to customers.

Make exclusions part of listing maintenance

After opt-in, eBay includes eligible listings by default and automatically adds new eligible listings. Exclude individual items as needed. Bundle discounts sit on top of listed prices; the individual listing prices remain unchanged.

Review the actual inventory pool before saving. Candidates for exclusion may include products with little contribution room, items already priced for clearance, or products with expensive packing requirements. These are commercial review prompts, not eBay eligibility rules. Decide from the product’s costs and your selling plan.

Add the bundle review to your new-listing checklist. Record the inclusion decision when a product launches, and revisit it after a supplier price change or listing-price adjustment. An initial exclusion audit will not protect future listings unless someone owns that ongoing check.

Check other promotions and shipping separately

eBay permits bundles with sitewide promotions and sale events. Seller coupons, order discounts, volume pricing, and other seller promotional codes do not stack; competing seller discounts resolve to the buyer’s best deal. Shipping follows listing options separately. The bundle discount has a $100 cap per transaction, across the order.

List your active offers before enabling the bundle. For each product group, note the listed price, sale price if applicable, competing offer, and shipping arrangement. Model the resulting amount instead of adding every advertised percentage together. Where a sale event can combine, check that the further reduction still fits your contribution floor.

Do not count a shipping saving until you have checked the package. Two items may fit one parcel, or they may require a larger box, more protection, or separate shipments. Verify your shipping settings and likely fulfillment cost independently from the item discount. For higher-value baskets, include the cap when calculating the expected reduction.

Understand the partial-return calculation

For a partial return, eBay automatically recalculates retained items using the tier their remaining quantity qualifies for. If no tier applies, retained items return to full price. The refund reflects that recalculation, so it can differ from the returned item’s originally discounted amount.

Prepare the customer-service team for this before orders arrive. When a buyer questions a refund, inspect the order’s actual calculation and explain the remaining quantity and applicable tier. Avoid promising a refund based only on the original per-item figure. Keep any other return issue tied to its own order details and applicable policy.

For internal profitability reporting, retain the original sale, refund, and relevant costs together. A multi-item order’s initial revenue is not its final contribution if part of it comes back. Use the completed transaction record when evaluating whether your offer deserves to continue.

Verify the offer and assign the next review

After saving, inspect the buyer-facing listing and cart with appropriate eligible items. Check the advertised tier, included products, expected item reduction, and separate shipping charge. Include an excluded listing in your checks. Record the time and what you observed; a saved setting alone does not confirm the shopping experience.

Start with inventory you can maintain confidently, then review real orders for contribution and fulfillment effort. Keep a dated record of price changes, competing promotions, exclusions, and returns so results have context. Go Massive’s eBay management service can help coordinate those listing and pricing operations.
